The primary server is configured to receive it's virus definition files, on a daily basis, from the host address - ftp. A couple weeks ago we noticed that our clients were not getting current definition files.
Everything was working fine up until that point. I use SSC In the past I have been able to right-click on a client and Update Virus Definitions Now, and after a few minutes I would do a refresh and the definition files would be updated.
I typically had to do this for my Vista x64 and XP x64 systems because for some reason they would not automatically update. But now I am not even able to get my bit systems updated using this method. I get the prompt that says I am about to updae the definitions on the selected client and click Yes.
A message comes back saying that SAV started a definition file download on the client and I must refresh the console view before I can see if the definitions were updated on the client. A couple of weeks ago, this worked fine, now it doesn't. If anyone has any suggestions that might help me resolve this issue that would be great. Skip main navigation Press Enter. Toggle navigation. Other question, what is the client OS , 32bit or 64bit? Please uninstall the client using Cleanwipe or nonav utility, restart the machine and then reinstal Hi mon, please update to latest version of SAV By the way, why don't you upgrade to SEP It has lot more functionalities than Communitaions aren't the problem. They're able to ping the machines. And no firewalls were in use i Hi Mon, A few people are wondering if you were able to resolve this issue.
Please update us w Hi mon, do you know the current service packs installed and current windows updates applied? Hi all, currently, we've escalated this with Symantec and they're doing a WebEx session to check on Oooops, you posted the Server name How about the lastest sevinst.
Have y This is the latest update I have at the moment. I've edited out some confidential info: " Pauli, what I'm wondering is that why only these 2 servers are the ones not getting any updates as From email: "I was on the phone again this morning with [Symantec] for another WebEx session Have you tried this? Maybe i'll try that at a later date. Right now, we're having Symantec fix this for us. While that's Bijay: Yes, I'd like them to do that.
But at the moment, we're still on the implementation fo Just like to ask if its just these 2 servers having update problems? Do you have any servers which Yes, these 2 problematic servers are backups of another set of servers. They have the same applicat The Group Policy service is optimized to speed up the application of group policy and to reduce adverse effects on client performance.
This article provides an in-depth explanation of how Group Policy interacts with start-up and sign-in processes.
The Group Policy service can run in the foreground at startup or sign-in or in the background during the user session. The service processes Group Policy in the following manner:.
The following table summarizes the events that trigger foreground or background processing, and whether the processing is synchronous or asynchronous. In order to apply configuration changes, some client-side extensions CSEs require synchronous processing at user sign-in or computer startup. In such cases, the CSE identifies the need for a change during background processing.
The next time that the user signs in or the computer starts up, the CSE completes the change as part of the synchronous processing phase. Some of these CSEs have an additional complication: They have to connect to domain controllers or other network servers while the synchronous processing runs. This design works effectively in an office environment. However, in a working-at-home environment, the user might not sign out and back in while connected to the domain.
Synchronous processing has to finish before the client contacts a domain controller or any other server. Therefore, some policies cannot be applied or updated correctly. In fact, this change can involve two sign-ins. During the first sign-in, the Folder Redirection CSE on the client detects the need for a change and requests the foreground synchronous processing run. During the next sign-in, the CSE implements the policy change. It is not used to make decisions about which GPOs are applied.
In the following circumstances, the Group Policy service doesn't update the group information in WMI:. This behavior means that the group list on a VPN-only client might always be stale because the Group Policy service cannot connect to the network during user sign-in.
When Group Policy runs and does not update the group information in WMI, the Group Policy service might record an event that resembles the following:. To resolve the problems that this article describes, use a VPN solution that can establish a VPN connection to a client before the user signs in.
If you cannot use a VPN that establishes a client connection before the user signs in, these workarounds can mitigate the problems that this article describes.
After you add a user to a group or remove a user from a group, provide the following steps to the user. This procedure provides the only supported workaround that refreshes the user security context on clients that do not connect to the VPN before the user signs in. Allow enough time for the membership change to replicate among the domain controllers before you have the user start this procedure.
You can use the following Windows PowerShell script to automate the lock and unlock steps of this procedure.
