How the choke works The choke of a scooter consists of a dedicated choke nozzle in the fuel reservoir and two narrow drillings leading to the venturi the pipe where the air goes through : When the motor cranks and the choke is active, the slight underpressure in the venturi sucks in extra fuel through this drillings. In reality, the choke looks like this, and you can easily recognize the piston, which is the brass barrel with the needle: Inside the black choke body, there is a small cavity filled with a liquid like oil, and an electric heating element.
How to test it This should be clear now. Driving without choke If the choke works fine, disconnecting the cable will make it "always active".
The motor will start fine, but consume more gas and build up more soot. If the choke is simply removed, the motor will draw additional air from above instead of additional fuel, making the mixture leaner. This makes it even more difficult to start and may cause damage due to the lean combustion. And the additional air didn't go through the filter.
Instead, it comes from the dirty, muddy and wet place where the carburetor typically sits If your oil tank has been completely emptied, this may cause damage to the engine when you start it; please take your vehicle to a PEUGEOT dealer so that he can carry out the essential operation of purging the lubrication circuit. Contact a Peugeot dealer for maintenance and repair. Checking the level of coolant is carried out with the engine cold and at a standstill.
Warning Petrol is an extremely inflammable substance that can explode under some conditions. Fill up with petrol in a well ventilated location with the engine switched off.
Do not smoke, do not allow flames or sparks close to the scooter or close to the place in which the petrol is stored. Petrol must not reach the neck of the filling orifice. Petrol is a dangerous substance and can be fatal if swallowed. Avoid repeated and prolonged contact with the skin and do not inhale the vapors.
Keep out of reach of children. Do not cause vomiting if petrol is swallowed. Call a doctor immediately. Never add coolant or electrolyte Traditional battery Battery electrolyte Check and keep the level between the «upper» maximum and «lower» minimum marks.
Use demineralized water or special lead battery water only for your battery; tap water will reduce its life. When you replace the battery, make sure that the air vent hose is properly in place and is not blocked or pinched. The charge must be carried out with a suitable battery charger with a maximum output of 0. Note : you can damage the battery if the battery charger that you use is too powerful. Danger The battery contains sulphuric acid. Avoid contact with the skin, the eyes or clothing.
Call a doctor immediately or the nearest antipoison centre. The battery releases explosive gases. Do not bring sparks, flames or cigarettes close. When charging or using in a closed location, make sure that the ventilation is good.
Protect eyes when working close to a battery. A used battery must always be taken to a certified recycling point. Fitting of a spark plug other than that recommended or failure to tighten it properly will lead to the destruction of the engine and the electronics. Only use standard fuses. Replace a burnt out fuse by a fuse of the same capacity. Replacing a fuse with an inappropriate fuse can cause irreversible damage to the equipment and can even cause safety faults, placing the user at risk. To fit a manual cable conversion you will need this kit. Hi, no- manual chokes like this are completely on or completely off hence no need for the needle as there are no mid-positions.
On a performance engine you would normally warm up the bike and then switch off the choke completely before riding. A standard auto choke switches off slowly over a few minutes when you start riding the bike but this isn't ideal on more highly tuned engines.

Guest Posted July 4, Posted July 4,
 More sharing options Hi thankyou for the reply,no the air filter on this bike is sort of two parts, one main part pushes on the carb and the other longer piece pushes into the other end of that, the auto choke came with the new carb,it seems standard on the speedfight 2 liquid cooled version, the problem I think with the choke is that I don't seem to have the 12 volts on the feed wires to it,so it is stuck on,as if the bike is cold starting, but this only seems to be half the problem Regards Dan Posted July 5, Guest Posted July 6, Posted July 6, Please let us know how you get on with it, and if you sort out the carb problem.
